Elements are attributes associated with Monsters, actions and other certain effects. These comprise four main elements: Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth. Each main element also corresponds to an Aether type, which can be spent to cast powerful actions.

Elements in Monsters

Every Monster is assigned at least two elements, which determines the actions it can learn. A Monster can essentially learn actions of either of its elements or actions that combine elements including at least one of the Monster's elements. The Monster's elements also determines the type of Aether they generate when using their basic attack.

In Aethermancer, elemental weakness is represented by the 'Poise' mechanic, which only affects enemy Monsters. Each Monster has a certain number of poise of their weakness. Each poise breaks when they receive damage matching the corresponding element or attack type. Once all poise are broken, the enemy is afflicted with 'Stagger', rendering it unable to take any actions during the current turn. For instance, an opposing Jotunn will always have a Fire Poise, and receiving Fire damage an X amount of times will cause it to Stagger (the amount of hits depends on the monster's level) .

Elements in Actions

The elemental damage of an action is determined by the Aether type required. Actions requiring two different Aether types will simultaneously combine both elements. For example, Lightning actions are formed through Fire and Wind, whereas Ice actions form from Water and Wind. Currently, it is uncertain whether these combined elements are considered as elements themselves.

There are a total of six double-elemental combinations, four of which are "friendly" and the other two are "opposite".

"Friendly" combinations:

  • Fire + Wind = Lightning
  • Fire + Earth = Lava
  • Water + Wind = Ice
  • Water + Earth = ? (possibly mud or sludge theme, only known skills are Healing Slime & Mud Fist)

"Opposite" combinations:

  • Fire + Water = ? (possibly explosive theme, only known skills are Alchemical Blast & Explosive Smash)
  • Wind + Earth = ? (possible crystal theme, only known skill is Jewel Blast)

Elements in other Effects

Each element has a Core Buff and Debuff associated with it. For example, Water is associated with Armor Break and Regeneration.

Some traits have triggered effects that deal elemental damage.
