Gustavo is a NPC you can find in Pilgrim's Rest, working as a mayor of the town. He is the first NPC you can interact with. He tells the protagonist that another Aethermancer arrived short before you. He then lets you explore the town and start a new run.

After completing a run, you can talk to Gustavo and buy metaprogression upgrades using the Aether Crystals you have colected during your run.

Trivia

• Before appearing in the Closed Alpha, Gustavo was revealed in a twitter post by moi rai, although his name wasn't revealed.
• Originally, Gustavo's name was Hobert, before being changed.
• Gustavo was the first metaprogression source from the game to be revealed.
• Gustavo appeared in posters made by the developers to promote the game's Closed Alpha and the NPC Design Contest.
