- Shambler was first revealed on December 25th, 2023, which was during Christmas.
- This makes Shambler as the 19th officially announced monster.
- This also makes it the last monster to be revealed in 2023.
- Shambler was first teased in the eighth Devlog on October 31st, 2023, alongside Nosferatu. They were briefly described in the third story, and their silhouettes can also be seen in the last darkened image.
- It was teased again on December 18th, 2023, just a week before Christmas, featuring one of its claws emerging from a portal and tossing a present.
Origin
Shambler draws inspiration from the Dimensional Shambler, an eldritch creature that appears in the works of H. P. Lovecraft. The Dimensional Shambler originates from another dimension, seizing victims and transporting them to its realm through the use of hypnosis.
Shambler is also based on a crab, mainly inspired by the coconut crab, as the dev team desired a big, tough, and lumbering monster for the game. Not only does it fit the description, but it also aligns well with a significant portion of Lovecraft's mythos, which is sea-borne in nature. One of the artists also believed that the coconut crab would be the type of animal to come from another dimension.
