Learning a new trait

Traits are passive skills from monsters that occur during combat. Some traits are continuously active, while others trigger in response to specific conditions, and some can only trigger a limited number of times per combat. Each trait is assigned with at least one type, which determines which monsters can learn it. For instance, a Power trait can only be learned by Power monsters.

Each monster species possesses a unique signature trait, which cannot be learned by other monsters or replaced through events. Additional traits become available as the monster reaches certain levels. Upon reaching a level to learn a new trait, three traits are randomly selected from the monster's skill pool, from which the player must choose one. Additionally, Lily may offer to replace an existing trait of a chosen monster with one of three available trait, mirroring the process of learning a new trait.

A trait can only be learned once unless it is replaced. Multiple monsters in the party can learn the same trait. The exception to this is for traits labeled as an Aura, which can only be learned by a single monster at a time. Once a monster learns an Aura trait, that trait will no longer appear on any other monsters in the party unless the former monster is removed from the party.

Maverick Traits

Maverick Traits are traits that combine two different types. A monster can only learn these traits if its type matches at least one of the required types, and if there is a monster in the party that possesses the other required type. This means that a monster with both required types can learn these traits without needing another monster in the party.

Maverick traits are designed to enable synergies between different monster types. Once acquired, the trait remains available even if there are no longer any monsters with the other required type, unless the trait is replaced.

Signature Traits

Signature Traits are traits exclusive to each monster species. Every monster possesses a signature trait and always starts out with this passive skill. Signature traits are intended to have a strong potential to be built around and ensure each monster stands out. Some of these traits are also designed to bring variety to each combat encounter and playthrough in the game.
